Curator's Choice Screening: The Zone of Interest
The Film Society of Vadodara, in association with ForRest Of Us, presents another edition of Curator's Choice featuring Jonathan Glazer's Academy Award-winning film, The Zone of Interest.
Unlike most films set during World War II, The Zone of Interest doesn't depict the horrors of war directly. Instead, it quietly observes the seemingly ordinary lives of a family living beside Auschwitz, raising unsettling questions about morality, indifference, and the ways we become desensitized to the suffering around us. Through its subtle storytelling, the film explores what philosopher Hannah Arendt famously described as the "banality of evil."
This screening is curated by Oma Sharma - acclaimed Hindi writer, translator, and former Indian Revenue Service officer - who brings his unique perspective to this powerful and deeply relevant film.
Join us for the screening, followed by a curator-led discussion as we reflect on the film's themes, its extraordinary cinematic language, and why The Zone of Interest continues to be one of the most important films of recent years.
